✈️ The flight we missed (and the one you won’t want to)

🧳 The Flight We Missed

A few years ago, right after travel restrictions lifted during Covid, we planned a family vacation to Puerto Rico. My oldest was nine, and the twins were three. We practiced wearing our masks for the plane ahead of time, and if you’ve ever tried to keep a mask on a three-year-old, you know that’s an adventure all its own. We had two of them!

We made it, and the vacation was wonderful.

The trip home was another story. Our flight was late getting into Dallas, so we ran to our terminal and got there just in time to watch our plane pull away from the gate.

It was late, we were tired, the airport was practically empty, and there we stood with car seats strapped to our backs and luggage in our hands.

I could have panicked. I wanted to, for sure. Instead, I told my kids we were on a brand-new adventure. It just wasn’t one we’d planned.

That adventure led us to a hotel with a glass elevator, fountains, and a breakfast restaurant. My kids loved every minute of it. We caught the next flight out in the morning and made it home just fine, but that unplanned night became one of the most memorable parts of the whole trip.

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you never saw coming. Taking a new path, picking up a new story, or giving a new author a chance can lead you somewhere you never expected to love.

Which brings me to...

Welcome Reader! This is your captain speaking. 🧭

Today, I'm launching something I've been quietly building for weeks: Flight of Authors, a free two-week reader event, hosted right on my website.

Step aboard and you'll find a steampunk airship cabin with 18 seats.

Each one holds a book from a different fantasy or romantasy author. Pick any seat that catches your eye, enter your email, and that author will hand you a free gift for the journey: free chapters, short stories, full ebooks, prologues, origin stories, and even an audiobook sample.

Every boarding pass is free. Your ticket is just an email address.

👉 Board the airship

🛠️ Built by hand, rivet by rivet

This is the first event I've ever organized, and I built the entire airship, from the cabin design to the seat graphics and the website. I love discovering new authors, and I wanted to give you an easy way to find your next favorite story.

When I asked for authors to sign up, something wonderful happened. The flight filled faster than I ever imagined, so a second flight is already on the schedule, with contemporary, paranormal, and even more genres aboard. Stay tuned.

As captain, I'm offering free chapters of Three Coins from a Dead Man's Pocket. (I'm working on a side story about Declan the Knave but it's not quite ready! Maybe next flight!😉) If you've already read Three Coins, skip my seat and go explore the other 17.

That's what this trip is all about.

⏳ Final destination: Your Inbox

The flight lands Wednesday, October 28, and the free reads leave with it. Grab as many as you like (or ALL of them!) before we touch down.

💌 Bring a travel buddy

Know someone who loves fantasy or romantasy? Forward this email to them. There are plenty of seats, and the more the merrier on this trip.

Fasten your seatbelts, and happy reading! 💖

Will YOU be at 📚NWA Book Fest this Saturday? Seáh llaéh, Reader! The last time I landed in your inbox, we were racing to the Kickstarter finish line back in May. A lot has happened since then, but first, the thing I most want you to know: I'll be at 📚NWA Book Fest this Saturday, September 26 from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Walton Arts Center, Fayetteville Come say hi, grab a signed book, poke through my hand-sprayed editions (with sparkles!) and some character art. I'll also have my map of the...

🕳️Plot twist: the author fell in a hole. Seáh llaéh, Reader So. I twisted my ankle this week. Nothing heroic about it. It was actually pretty ungraceful. I was walking up the grassy hill at my daughter's therapy session, looked behind me to make sure I had grabbed everything, and stepped into a hole. Down. I. went. Suddenly I was lying on my back in the grass, holding my ankle and wondering why my hip had opinions about it. 😂(turns out I fell on it too and now have a HUGE bruise.) Super. For...

📛I Didn't Know His Name... Seáh llaéh, Reader There's a parent at my kids' swim meets I've talked to probably a dozen times. (And yes, this is actually the pool we were at.) Well, me and this dad, we've covered the meaning of life, the history of his country, raising teenagers, and what kind of world we're handing our children. Deep, meaningful conversations. The kind you don't always get to have. And every time we talk I think to myself - I don't know his name.🫣 I'd been baring my whole self...
