🕳️Plot twist: the author fell in a hole.
Seáh llaéh, Reader
So. I twisted my ankle this week.
Nothing heroic about it. It was actually pretty ungraceful.
I was walking up the grassy hill at my daughter's therapy session, looked behind me to make sure I had grabbed everything, and stepped into a hole.
Down. I. went.
Suddenly I was lying on my back in the grass, holding my ankle and wondering why my hip had opinions about it. 😂(turns out I fell on it too and now have a HUGE bruise.) Super.
For two days I hobbled around the house like I was auditioning for a pirate movie, ankle swelled up twice its size, muttering under my breath every time I had to go up the stairs. Which was a lot, because I have 17 of them in the house alone - and 5 to just get into the garage. It turns out the stairs don't care that you're injured.
Here's what I did during those two days: fought with a PDF for approximately one million hours to get the proof finally ordered.🙄 Built out the Book Two Spotify playlist. Packed lunches. Showed up to an award ceremony. Figured out how to get three kids to four different places with only one me. (Hubs was out of town, so you know...)
I did the best I could.
And that's kind of been this whole season of life, hasn't it? End of school year is chaos for everyone. And we do the best we can.
Field days, music performances, award ceremonies, the frantic sprint to the finish line before summer blows the door open. You've got your own version of three kids and four places. I know you do.
But here's the thing I keep coming back to: the prize at the end isn't the absence of struggle. It's the learning that happens while we struggle.
And we are killing it, friends.
Watching my kids become the kind of people they're becoming — curious, kind, capable — and knowing I showed up for that even when my hip was screaming and the PDF wouldn't load...
Watching myself become the kind of author I'm becoming, too.
Seven years of writing this story. Doing the very best I can.
That pride? It's real. And it's worth the hobble.
🗓️Seven days left. Here's what's waiting for you.
The campaign closes May 22. That's ONE WEEK from today.
After that, these special edition books — the duplex covers, the digitally printed edges, the illuminated chapter headers, the hand-signed pages — are gone until the next campaign (and it took me two years to get book 2 out, so who knows how long the next campaign will be!)
The standard editions won't have any of these gorgeous special flair. This is the only time these books exist exactly like this.
Summer is Coming.☀️
(See what I did there?😅)
You know what that means, though right? Road trips. Beach bags. Lazy afternoons with nowhere to be. (or running kids to 5 different camps they begged you to go go.) Either way.🤷♀️
Four Secrets from a Captured Soul is 400+ pages of soul magic, airship battles, and a slow-burn love story that will absolutely ruin you in the best possible way. Grab it now so it's waiting for you when the school year finally lets go.
Then, you'll have it while you sit in the car, air conditioner blowing, waiting for that kid to be finished with that thing.😉
Something I've been building: the Spotify playlists 🎵
Every backer gets access. These aren't just "vibes." Each song has a personal intro from me explaining exactly what I was thinking about when I chose it. The scene. The character. The moment in the story I was living in when that song found me.
Book Two's playlist is finished. I worked on it this week between PDF battles and musical performances. It follows the arc of the entire story — you'll feel the loss, anger, and healing when Ava does.
Book One's playlist is next on my list this weekend.
These playlists are something I've never offered before and honestly, I'm a little in love with them. They're a way into the story before you even open the book.
We're inching toward the next stretch goal: a personalized digital note from me tucked inside every special edition eBook. After that, vellum overlays, mystery sticky notes, and the big one I'm personally rooting for — colored maps for both books, brought to life by Andrés, the cartographer who created them.
✨Not sure which tier is right for you?
Here's an easy choice: choose one and click on the image. It will take you right to the campaign page.
Something my friend made that you need to smell 👃
See those roll-on scents up there? (They smell unreal.)
Avalína's Song: bright citrus over warm cardamom and amber.
Tobias's Devotion: leather and hickory wrapped in suede and vanilla.
Thorben's Surrender: a rainstorm cut with mint.
You cannot find these anywhere else. They were made for these characters, for this story. If you've been eyeing them, now is the time.
🫶Three things you can do right now:
Share this campaign on social media — screenshot it, post it, tag a friend who needs a new book obsession.
Send a text. Copy and paste this:
"Hey! My favorite indie author has 7 days left on her Kickstarter — Book 2 of her sci-fi fantasy romance series. Soul magic, airships, friends-to-lovers slow burn. Thought you'd love it! http://mrcy.2.vu/1
Tell someone. Word of mouth still wins. Every single time.
P.S. Whether you back, share, or just hit reply and tell me your name so I stop feeling like I'm talking into the dark — thank you. Truly. You've made this whole thing real.

🧳 The Flight We Missed A few years ago, right after travel restrictions lifted during Covid, we planned a family vacation to Puerto Rico. My oldest was nine, and the twins were three. We practiced wearing our masks for the plane ahead of time, and if you’ve ever tried to keep a mask on a three-year-old, you know that’s an adventure all its own. We had two of them! We made it, and the vacation was wonderful. The trip home was another story. Our flight was late getting into Dallas, so we ran to...
Will YOU be at 📚NWA Book Fest this Saturday? Seáh llaéh, Reader! The last time I landed in your inbox, we were racing to the Kickstarter finish line back in May. A lot has happened since then, but first, the thing I most want you to know: I'll be at 📚NWA Book Fest this Saturday, September 26 from 10 AM to 6 PM at the Walton Arts Center, Fayetteville Come say hi, grab a signed book, poke through my hand-sprayed editions (with sparkles!) and some character art. 📛I Didn't Know His Name... Seáh llaéh, Reader There's a parent at my kids' swim meets I've talked to probably a dozen times. (And yes, this is actually the pool we were at.) Well, me and this dad, we've covered the meaning of life, the history of his country, raising teenagers, and what kind of world we're handing our children. Deep, meaningful conversations. The kind you don't always get to have. And every time we talk I think to myself - I don't know his name.🫣 I'd been baring my whole self...
